Our friends from Compassionate Care Hospice/St. Francis Hospital visited the shelter on Christmas Eve and brought a donation to DHA’s Santa Paws Workshop. There was so much in their sleighs that a few DHA staff members pitched in to unload everything! Thank you all on behalf of the animals who are benefiting from your generosity this holiday season!
Our Riverfront Wilmington neighbors at EDIS (Christina Fanning, Jennifer Ann, Angie Lapenta, Jackie McKee and Dawn Stewart) visited the shelter today and brought a donation to DHA’s Santa Paws Workshop. Thank you all on behalf of the animals who are benefiting from your generosity this holiday season!
We are a little late in getting this posted, but wanted to recognize the awesome efforts of Maya Brooks from Girl Scout Troop 732. For her Silver Award Project, Maya made 75 pet beds (5 large, 55 medium and 15 small) for the animals at Delaware Humane Association this summer! She made the beds with fabric donated by Delaware School & Office and the help of students at Newark Center for Creative Learning. Maya will receive her Silver Award on December 1st at the On My Honor Ceremony. On behalf of all of us at DHA and the animals in our care who enjoyed the comfort of their wonderful new beds, we would like to thank Maya and her helpers very much for their hard work, generosity and compassion!
Troop 1081 worked hard all summer on their Bronze Award Project, which is earned by Girl Scouts who help their community by volunteering their time. Troop 1081’s project focused on helping the animals at Delaware Humane Association. In mid-September, the girls visited the shelter to bring donated items from their pet supply collection at Concord Pet Foods & Supplies store in Shoppes of Graylyn, as well as homemade kitty blankets, cat nip bags, and a variety of homemade dog toys. Their donations represent about 100 hours of work by the girls, and they were really excited to be helping pets who are waiting for new homes! Girl Scout Troop 1081 will receive their Bronze Award on December 1st at the On My Honor Ceremony. On behalf of all of us at DHA and the animals in our care, we would like to thank Amanda, Isabella, Macy, Sarah, Wellesley and Zorah very much for their hard work, generosity and compassion!
The animals at DHA want to give a big “paws up” to the students at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Wilmington, DE for their great efforts and generosity!
Each year at Immaculate Heart of Mary School every grade level chooses a charity to sponsor as part of their outreach program. Money is raised through Bake Sales held at lunch. This year, Reading groups from grades 1st through 4th as well as the 3rd, 4th, 5th grade Math and 5th and 6th grade Reading groups chose to support DHA.
With the support of the faculty and their families, these young philanthropists raised $350.60 for the animals. Thank you!
Nine year old Oliver Leedale-Brown recently selected Delaware Humane Association to receive a charitable gift of $100 in his name. When asked why he selected DHA, Oliver said:
“All animals deserve a good home with people who care about them. When no one wants an animal, they are cared for at the Delaware Humane Association and homes are found where the animals are treated well and loved. That really matters to me, so I want them to get the money to be able to help more animals.”
Oliver’s donation and words reflect his generosity as well as his love for animals and his commitment to their welfare. And, as evidenced by the photos below, he clearly has a strong bond with four-legged family member, Cooper.
On behalf of all the animals your donation is helping, we say THANK YOU, OLIVER!
